Preparing to Go – Packing List

So now that my departure date is not so far away now, I thought it was about time that I get my packing list sorted.

I’m planning on bringing a 60-litre rucksack with me as hold luggage. This one pictured is hard wearing and has remained sturdy through many a Duke of Edinburgh expedition. It is however very heavy, so I would recommend anyone who is buying their backpack to research into different brands.

I’ve sewed on a few fabric patches as decoration courtesy of the Etsy website, and these brighten up the dull brown colour of my backpack no end 😀

The trip I’m planning on doing is indefinite, meaning I am packing for all climates and eventualities.

My first stop is in New York in early February, and having been to the city before at this time of year, I know how cold it can get! Hence why I have added warm coat and jumper to the list.

I then fly off to Costa Rica, which will be in the middle of the dry season – probably giving me a massive climate shock from the grey UK skies! I’m volunteering there, so a couple of things on my list are specific to the placement at the butterfly farm in the mountains; a headlamp, abundance of long trousers and hiking boots to name a few.

This list is preliminary and I expect to make some changes as I pack over the next few weeks!
